The Tale of The Tantrum

Tiny is in a whirlwind of tantrums. It's not that she's themed herself for Halloween, it's just that she's in the mood to be feral. Really, really feral.

It's. Zapping. My. Will. To. Live.

I feel treacherous and like a big traitor, but I have to tell you, I can't cope with the constancy of the curdling screams.

And if I say something a little terse to her, she instantly cries "Daddy, daddy", or vice versa. It's doing my head in.

I need a lobotomy or a bottle in front of me.

If only someone could tell me how long this is going to last because it feels like it's going to be forever and it's playing with me.

I think it's the sleep deprivation coupled with acute (not cute) feralness. She comes into our bed around 2am, and I am so tired I just can't take her back, and have fallen into an ugly rut of bad sleep. It's messing with me. I'm in a really bad mood. I don't want to hang tough with anyone. In the words of Greta Garbo - I want to be alone.
I don't know where that image is from. Too tired. Sorry.

Oh Lexi.

My heart goes out to you.

There is no rhyme or reason to it, but my little girl (also a Lexie) was like this for what felt liek forever from aged 2.5 to about 3.5?

I found this, that describes her behaviour at its worst and at point that I just wanted to give up:

Now she is utterly delicious and the blood curdling tanties have abated. Thank fuck.

Tea. Afternoon snooze. Ear plugs. Act like you couldn’t give a screaming toss. When you’re ninety, pull out the ear plugs and you may well discover that Tiny has stopped the scream thing. Of that I am almost sure.

Pop over and I'll supply a therapeutic slice of lemon tart to go with that tea.

My little man is going through the exact same thing and it blows. Keep on keeping on. And keep your fridge stocked with wine!

Take the lobotomy. Much safer than the bottle. Sorry can't help. I only had perfect children (or I am too old to remember those earth shattering tantrums of my son when I thought the kitchen dresser would fall over and drop all it's goodies on us just because he threw himself on the wooden floor). Cherrie

Unfortunately the word verifacation has some really good advice that I am sure Tiny will not allow you to take: "restr".

And the next one said: "wameter" which you are not allowed to take.

remember when they were so gorgeous and cuddly and SLEEPY -- little busom babies. snuggled up with their very favourite person.

yep - that's all gone to hell in a handbasket, eh?

A: Soooo aNNOYing...

i am hoping like shit he gets over himself soon - who made himme the centre of the universe?

I do love Lucy's 'thank fuck'... that was gigglesome.

Hang in there and savour wine. I am sure it helps.

I wish I could say something more positive..but Ivy turned 4 last week and threw three of her most giant tantrums ever.

Keith and I have decided that she will just always be a unpredictable and INTERESTING daughter, and that's what her gift to our lives.

But fuck me, it's hard work sometimes.

Hugs.

don't you just want to get down on the ground and flick every part of your body around, scream at the top of your lungs and get up when you are ready?

ok maybe that is what I would like to do everyday.

rock on with your bad self and flick those legs about!

(ps. thinking my little phrase I am running with at the moment is only funny to me. I cannot stop laughing when I say it or write it)!

Oh man, lexi, that sucks big time!! I am in agreement with Tania, show no emotion and remove tantruming toddler somewhere else. I just bought 1-2-3 Magic in desperate hopes it will help with tantrums over here (from my 6 1/2 year old no less!!) I just want to put her out on garbage night sometimes. Thinking of you.

hang in there. it's really tough. i'm not sure why they say terrible twos, because in my experience with all three, it starts much earlier than that. my littlest one at 21 months is giving me a run for my money. maybe it has to do with getting better at articulating what she wants, but not understanding that she's only 21 months old and cannot have the things that her two older siblings have. so, we get terrible, gremlin screams. in public. sometimes she wakes up in the morning this way. my mum always says, 'this too shall pass'....

I'm hoping it's just girls (because my son has just turned 2 and I'm not keen for the tantie phase again! My daughter chucked wobblies too - on and off for about a year, from aged 2.5 but we'd find they'd come in waves - a bad week, some good days, another few bad days, etc, etc.

I used think that she'd either grow out of it or move out of home evetually! Fortunately she's grown out of it because 15 years of tantrums would be too much!!
