A Big Question

Despite the fact that I am battling a hangover induced by imbibing too many cheap sparkling wines, and then drinking my friend's discarded bevvie, I am OK! I am OK people. I wish someone had stopped me (let alone myself stopping me).

But I do have a very serious question for you.

The other day I began my day with the vacuum cleaner at 8am. I also finished the same day with the vacuum cleaner at 10pm. I've spoken at length about how much joy vacuuming gives me! It's awesome! Instant results. Matt commented that I have an unusual relationship with the vacuum. I do. We're BFFs. We're tight. We're rolling with the dust bunnies.

But while I was vacuuming I thought - why is it that I don't mind tidying and cleaning someone else's home, but when it comes to my own home, it's a real drag?

I will happily do tidying at my sister's or a friends house. But my own? MEH!

Why friends do I suffer from this traumatic malaise?
image (have you seen this book?? it's a great gift for er, someone. It's funny. Trust me. I'm an expert.)

I have this book and it is HILAR. As for the vacuuming - I have said this before and will say it again. Take a look at the word. It's the oddest word you have laid eyes on in the english language! This is just one reason why we don't need to like doing it. There are many many more.
Oh and get this - I got a new Dyson for Christmas. AND vacuuming is my LEAST favourite job in the universe. Needless to say, not very excited about my present this year. Practicality won. Boo.

This is not a unique malaise by any means. In fact most of my friends suffer from a similar problem. I indeed will happily do my friend's dishes but only grudgingly my own. What is not yet understood though, is why anyone could form an attachment to a vacuum cleaner. The most most irksome thing in the whole wide world and yet some people over bond with it. More research is called for into this modern phenomena. Cherrie

i agree! i love the instant clean the vacuum provides, it's amazing.
as for cleaning others houses, it's probably a need for us to please & help out whereas our own houses..mehh, we don't need to please ourselves, maybe tomorrow.
hope the head feels better soon.
all the best for the festive season Ms Lexi ♥

I'm like that with pulling weeds! I'll happily pull weeds in someone elses garden but loathe doing it at home!!

And yes, those "PORN" books are fabulous! I give one away at every babyshower - Porn for New Mum is my favourite!

I much prefer tidying other peoples houses. So much more satisfying. For def's. When I was a kid I used to say I wanted to be a cleaner when I grew up, much to my university working parents malaise! *s*

LOL I've never seen that book before, I love it!

I have a strange love for my vacuum too, as you say it has an immediate effect and no matter how tidy I think my living room is, it always looks nicer with another vacuuming :)

I much prefer to tidy other peoples spaces. 'Specially if they are already tidy and clutter free!

Oh, I love to vacuum, too. Especially doing it with my turquoise 1956 Electrolux canister. The instant gratification of the dust bunnies and dirt being sucked up is wonderful. My vacuum lives in the house and only in the closet when I'm having company over, although, secretly I'd like them to see my beautiful machine and ooh and aah over it like I do. I have another turquoise model for my basement studio. Heaven.

I used to prefer cleaning friend's homes but have come to enjoy cleaning my own...but I don't have wee little ones to clean up after day in and day out, so maybe that's a reason you'd rather do it somewhere else because it might feel never ending at home.

my hubby has the same relationship with our vacuum. i am not allowed to touch it! which is fine by me because i love having a hubby that does all the housework.
