I just love anything to do with birth. I'd love to one day be a midwife, but alas, I will wait until my smalls are not so small and I can study full-time.
This program showcases some seriously awesome midwives - so supportive, empowering and genuinely interested in the mums and babies being born - and full of the LOVE!
Every birth brings goosebumps to me - the tension, the nerves, the tears, the frustration, the exhaustion. Those big gutsy pushes. Oh man, I just love it.
You can watch this series online too. Just in case you missed it.

I LOVE this show. I especially liked the woman that got angry with her husband, so funny! (she just had her baby today by c-section)
Havent seen it yet but ill check it out soon. Ive been walking the dog! Lost 3 kilos too!
Hi,
How great is this show? I had a baby 4 months ago and the show brings it all back.Love it! Love it!
And hence the televisual stand-off between the Mr and me this evening. I reckon my Mr wouldn't be the only bloke heading for the hills. Only if he had have ducked out to the nearest hill, I would have watched it.
Oh Joy had me in tears tonight! After being such a pill and finally having her baby by c-section, turns out she is lovely mum!
I too would have loved to have been a midwife. Maybe a doula. Maybe not. Too pro natural I fear xox
I have not watched it, yet. I have it all downloaded ready to go. (When I have evenings to myself without lovely husband, so I can get engrossed and cry, unselfconsciously.)
I am the same regarding all things birth. Exactly.
Love this show. I am there with them, pushing away and shedding tears at the end!.
Mama must-watch tv.
I love this show! Last nights episode was great, I wasn't all that fond of Joy until about half way into last night and when she was handed that baby last night, cue the tears!
I love birth too and wanted to be a midwife until I realised that I couldn't deal with the hospital system, so I became a doula and birth educator but unfortunately I can't practice with two little ones. I hope you manage to study as the little ones go off to school - midwives are amazing!
It is a great show, but I get so frustrated - women in bed, no upright pressure on cervix, no movement to help the baby down, on their backs so baby has to travel upwards, no water pain relief, no heat packs or massage, midwives often offering pain management without mums asking, mothers not listening to midwives, and some of the most unsupportive husbands - no wonder some of their labours are so long with mothers not being left in peace to do their job! (Putting my soap box away now!) Sorry for the rant - I love watching it. :)
I also love this show. I missed it last night, and am off to watch it as soon as I have finished catching up on blogs!
I love that show. It always makes me cry. I also used to watch From Here To Maternity on Foxtel with Antonia Kidman. You would like that show too.
I always wanted to be a midwife too. I love babies.
I watched it for the first time last night, partly with my face hidden behind a cushion I must admit. Can I ask you a question?...
You know the Thai lady Joy, why do you think they left her labouring for 4 days, then opted for a c-section rather than trying to induce her first? (earlier maybe).
And how much did you want to slap her Fabio. Every time he pinched her cheek I wanted to punch him for her. I made Mr You promise that labour is no time to fight about names, despite how "ridiculous" we think they are.
I love this show too! I love watching the poor husbands and partners - sometimes being helpful and sometimes (in Fabio's case) not so much.
I'm so totally in love with this show. Last nights episode was my favourite so far - Joy & Fabio were just gorgeous.
And the midwifes reminded me of my midwife when I had master two point five - just adorable.
Oh I love birth stories, I must watch this!
It's SO great, I am loving it!! So happy for Joy and Fabio that their baby finally arrived, what a great ending!!
This is a great show. I've just found out I'm pregnant so it scares the hell out of me, but I'm trying to be brave and watch it anyway!
Oh, I have wanted to see that but keep missing it! Thanks for the tip about it being online.
Jess
xx
I work Tues nights so watch it online all the time and I cry for every single birth. I feel totally tragic crying in to my laptop all the time but alas, I'm a big sook!
Oh I love this show so much. I cry every episode, I do.
Isn't it such a fantastic show.
I'm a blubbering mess every Tuesday night. It almost makes me want another baby, ok maybe just another birth - they can keep the baby ;-)
i love watching stuff like this too.
Really, you liked it? I thought it was AWFUL. It normalises birth rape and trauma and completely downplays a woman's innate ability to birth.
But then, I have birthed in hospital and at home in the water and I know which I'd choose.
ButterflyMama - I know precisely which part of the birth you're referring to, and I flinched too.
However, I was talking about the program as a whole.
I've had two birth centre births, one water, one on land, both were led by me, and I was supported by wonderful midwives, successfully, with no intervention.
yep I loved it! totally agree but how about some of the husbands! oh man there was one berating his wife over her choice to go natural and she should have just gone for a c/s and blah blah blah! ready to throw something at the screen!
but great show!
Corrie:)
Hi,
I've recently found your blog and this is my first post. I, too, LOVE (and occasionally hate) that show. Yep, I'm a sobbing mess every week so I watch it the next day when my son is having his nap. That way I can cry as much as I like and there's no one to see me.
Obviously, different episodes affect each woman differently. I was really touched by the episode with the VBAC lady and the midwife talking about birth being a "rite of passage" of sorts. Here's hoping I get to have a VBAC with the next one!
flossy-p: I thought they did try to induce Joy... or maybe I'm thinking of someone else - Joy was there for sooooo looooong, poor woman!
I LOVE THIS SHOW. it has made me want so switch career's and become a midwife. for real. the other tuesday my partner was away and my kids were both still awake at 8.30 and instead of putting them to bed i made a bed on the couch and they had to fall asleep whilst i watched the show! seriously obsessed!
