Thanks For The Back Up

Thank you ladies for all your kind comments. It meant a lot to me.

Our 'life change' is something that I will continually re-assess. As one commenter mentioned, if it doesn't work out, then you have to change something. If the Doctor struggles at school, or Tiny needs some mama-lovin', then I am prepared to do whatever it takes to be there for them. Our family is the point of this!

I took on this role so that Matt could step out of full-time work, focus on his degree, work part-time and become a teacher. It's something that a lot of people struggle to understand, but for our little family, one of us is always at home with the kids. When I'm home, Matt's at work, and vice-versa. It's the thread that ties us all together. Because of this new arrangement we're leading a simple life, which is another thing people struggle to understand. But for us, family is the reason for being.

Rather than focussing on acquiring things, we're enjoying one another - our lovely little family. What more does one need than a home, food and love? Not a lot, peeps!

It's simple things. And it's not always simple. I'm dogtired at the end of the week, and then Matt goes to work, and I can be a little cranky.

And through all of these changes the smalls have been incredible. Amazing creatures they are. I admire them in so many ways. Resilient little beings.

While I don't think we truly can have it all, and it really is about busting that myth that's perpetuated so that we are burdened by the pressure, the notion that - well she's having it all, but how do I have it all?

You don't need to have it all. You can have a small serve, decide what you like, and then choose to come back for more.

And yes ladies the crux of it is that we can still be awesome mamas.

Too mushy?

I had a coversation with a friend recently about how it is not us but other people who have a problem with our simple lifestyle. The simple life is a gift when you have smalls and the more I pare it back the better it gets. Another reason to take no notice of anyone elses values particularly when it comes to material wealth. The people I know who have money are not having that much fun as far as I can see.

No, not too mushy. We always planned our working lives around one being home in the morning, me, and one being home in the afternoon, my partner. It meant for us being ships in the night, the tired days, the please can you all go away days, but I think it worked out OK. Just can't shake the damn kids now they're adults. Maybe latch key kids would have been better - the always open door never seems to shut behind anyone. ;)

Too right Mrs Smith. I don't think they're havin' fun either. Our kids call our house the povo house. Now remember, it's the one they're not leaving...

Yes, but how do we define all? I think I have it all ebcasue we are all happy most of the time. I agree so much with what you said- really do you need more than food, love and a home? Nup.
Well put Lexi.

I'm feeling a little weepy about all of this Lex. I love the way you talk about you and Matt pulling together through the crankiness and the tiredness because you have this solid, unshakeable understanding at the centre of it all : as long as you're together living with love, the sacrficies are worth it. You've so got it right and you are just such great parents you two. Good for you. Good job!!

Wow - I can so relate. I have just found your blog and am new to the blogging world. I started my own this year and my own small crafting business. We are making a move and focussing on the simple life - and too have people wondering what we are all about! Nice to meet you! I hope you can stop by my blog!
