MirKerr Makes Me Purr

First of all, forgive me for the ridiculous title of this post. But peeps, it's true. I love this girl. She's a natural beauty. She grew up in a town not far from mine own town. She's a country girl. Us country girls have got to thigh slap together.

She marries Orlando Bloom. Hot. Hot squared when they make a baby. When baby is born = hot cubed.

And then she releases this image as the first of her wee bebe on her blog.

Helloooo Miranda Kerr. Mother and child.

I had a mini-argument with the gals at work about this image. I loved it. They didn't. I think it's delightfully natural. MirKerr looks so at ease. So blissful. And I think it removes some stigma about breastfeeding publically. The gals at work didn't dig on seeing her boobie. I don't find boobies offensive. I love this image. So natural.

Happy Babymoon Miranda and Orlando - and welcome beautiful Flynn.

I think it's the best celeb and baby photo I've ever seen. Gorgeous. She is the perfect mix of bliss and exhaustion - and she's boobing her baby. Apart from being crazy beautiful, she is just like any other mum. Love it.

Quite a few people have been posting about this image over the past few days. Check out Checks and Spots at http://checksandspots.blogspot.com/
I am not a fan of the shot; it seems too poser-ish, although I am totally up for images of breastfeeding Mamas etc. What annoyed me the most was her need to comment on her drug free birth. Again, felt really scripted and try hard.

I love this picture too because she looks so freaking happy and beautiful, and really, no matter what or how she did a photo like this, someone would accuse her of something bad. I like the breastfeeding too, esp. because it annoyed my Grandmother! :)

Loved this pic. Loved her birth announcement. She's on a high after giving birth naturally - and there is no other high like it.
Wonderful eg. of a woman "normalising" natural birth and breastfeeding. Yay!

This is such a beautiful photo - I don't feel it is posed - the light is shining on the baby, not Miranda as such and it is such a delightful encouragement for breast-feeding. Well done her!!

You know I love this - and it's not that she is ridiculously beautiful, it could be any new mother in this pic - but it's so relaxed, warm and a gorgeous pic of a new mum in a tender moment with her adored baby and partner. It's just perfect. It didn't make me feel insecure or inadequate, it made me feel warm and gooey and teary.

And I LOVE that she had a (at home, water birth was it?) unmedicated birth for such a whopper. I don't think by what she said that she condemns any other women their personal choices, I don't think it was judgemental or smug, but hot damn - let the woman be proud of her achievement, because it definitely is. Particularly for famous ladies where a c-section is the rigour de jour, usually for solely career and figure reasons. I think more women in the public eye should normalise unmedicated, or even just vaginal birth (I don't like to label it as natural, as that stigmatises other births as unnatural, oi hoi the politics) as an achievable option. It's not for everyone of course and that is a fine and personal choice and I am seriously the last person who will judge another for it, but there are undisputed benefits and I think people who are judging her for being "smug" or "competitive" are in all honesty being the judgemental ones. She is in post-birth bliss, let her have that and support it. Sheesh.

I totally agree Georgie Love. A beautiful photo sending a great message. All mothers should feel proud of their achievement. After all, we make people!

You're so right, as a midwife I'm so chuffed for her! great birth, great breastfeeding, yet Woman's Day probably wouldn't want that story, not enough 'drama'! How blissed out does she look!

rock the boobies! this is a beautiful and natural image of motherhood.... and she is lovely!

I love this photo, it's beautiful.
It was posted on the Age website and I CANNOT believe how many comments were made about her showing her "breast" (which you can barely see) and how conservative everyone suddenly got when it was in the context of breast feeding. I'm sure you can see more in many of her fashion photos, but no one seems bothered then.
That is all.

Lexi - I am TOTALLY with you on this one.

Also recently Dome (do you have that up there) had an add with a mum breast feeding - they do the adds weekly with different photos - loved it.

Being a midwife and a HUGE interest in Lactation Consultancy these images help make it normal - though at times can be really difficult to get right!

I understand what Jgee is saying - but only a woman who has had a totally natural birth will understand what MirKerr is about. LIke Megan K said she is on a natural high... beautiful... beautiful - smoshy lovely

I totally dig this...A pure image of LOVE. It puts a smile on my dial and reminds me of when I first met my babies and how proud I was to bring them into this world, even with a little help. It took nothing away from the feeling of being a new mummy. I loved that :)

Interesting comments, good to get some vexed opinions. Just for the record Sarah, I had an entirely natural/intervention free birth so know exactly what Miranda experienced. I guess I was thinking of all the women who don't/can't and are made to feel less than perfect. I don't care how a woman births or parents her babies- she should be celebrated and made to feel safe and proud. I agree, the image is one of pure love and post birth bliss and wow was the feeling amazing, I just felt it looked a bit contrived with the lipstick and all.

Beautiful photo and loving the boobie. It is natural after all!

I love the photo of such a precious moment and don't think it looks posed at all. And there's hardly any boobie on show anyways!

I don't think MirKerr has a spec of make-up on, I think she is naturally this fresh-faced.. Bummer for the rest of us, but high-five Miranda!

And regardless, I always put lip gloss on when I had a newborn in my arms. It made me feel connected with my old self, while also feeling a bit more presentable when really I looked like a cat just dragged me in.

LOVING the love.

i'm in total agreement--there is something beautiful and natural about a mother breastfeeding. it's a timely pic given the protests at a mall in canada which were in response to a woman being asked to leave a children's clothing shop for nursing in public.

i love the warmth in the cozy colors of this pic, the sweet smile she has as she cradles little flynn, and the sweetness of that tiny (though a whopper) baby sucking.

thanks for posting it.

I love this picture, and am glad she's so happy and excited - I don't think she's gloating about her birth experience, just buzzing (when I rang my sister - who is a midwife - after giving birth, she had to remind me to tell her all the weight / height details, because I was too excited about telling her how the birth was...). As for the lippy, if I knew my photos would be seen by millions, I'd be putting it on too!

I love this photo. I think it is the best new photo of a mum and bub released by a celeb.
I am perplexed why people get into a tiz about a boob. Sadly the majority of comments are from women. What the hey? You all have boobs too. Come on sisters get with the program. The boob is for feeding your beautiful baby. It's important.
I pushed out a 10 pounder with no drugs and I still feel tops because this was amazing for me. Do I sing it from the roof tops - yes because I am a wuss. I used to cry at paper cuts. Does it make me more of a wonder woman then any other delivery or drug used by other women....hell no!
Natural, c's, stalk....drugs or no drugs, it's all the same thing. You made a person or care for one. You go girls!!

This is a beautiful shot, brought to my attention of my husband who thought it was pretty cool. Doesn't she make Motherhood looks sooooo good! Oh, and good luck to her if she can breastfeed a brand new babe like that! I was all cracked nipples and tears, not a robe to be seen.

That warm, fuzzy, cosy feeling of cuddling and feeding your newborn. When your body has just produced something so magic and beautiful and that makes you feel the same way. You're tired and functioning on very little sleep but that doesn't seem to matter when you look at your darling child. And this is what bliss feels like.

That's what this photo says to me. And I love it. Well done Miranda!

I love this image. Why can't women be beautiful while being sleep deprived, covered in milk, covered in love, a little crazy? And the controversy about the boobie is ridiculous. What else can you expect when demand breastfeeding a newborn? They are constantly attached. I have no idea who she is and little interest in her celebrity status but anyone encouraging drug free births and breastfeeding bubbas in this world is fine by me.

I was so happy to see this photo and interested to read her blog. I agree with Jgee. Although I'm very happy for her, being the mother of a failed natural birth, I always have a bit of a wince when I hear mothers speaking of their achievements. And am often embarassed to admit I didn't do it drug free (although I did manage a vaginal birth despite being told I'd have to have a c-section). Oh well, not to detract from a great image and positive message. (Oh, and feel the photo may be a bit contrived - I don't know anyone who had mastered breastfeeding so quickly - but what the hell. Who doesn't try to look like the picture of perfection when a camera is out?)

I love it too...truly natural and truly beautiful..
