Being Lara Bingle: Opinions or Assassinators?

So tonight I watched the debut episode of Being Lara Bingle. It was funny and fun. Exactly the type of television I want to watch when I am tired after work. You can shake your head at me all you like, but we all want different things. Right?!

So I tweeted it too.

Afterwards the knives were drawn. 140 characters at 20 paces.

Since when did it become au fait to be nasty?

The snipers were out aiming to shoot her down, just as the paparazzi were ready to shoot her.

And since I am well on my way on the positivity parade, I stood firm. It's not ok to tear shreds off Lara Bingle.

If you don't want to watch it, then don't. Simple really. But you don't have to assassinate someone.

And for the record, I've had the good fortune of working with Lara - many, many years ago. She is just as beautiful now as she was then - and without a speck of make-up. She just glows.

She's not really on my radar so I'm not really interested in watching her show but I completely agree with you. It's not o.k to be nasty about anyone. We don't have to agree with what others may be doing in their lives (in her case, this new show) but taking it to a nasty level doesn't achieve anything positive for anyone. Don't get me wrong, I do have a sense of humor about things but I think a line has been crossed with Miss Bingle.

I didn't notice too much nastiness actually, but I wasn't following the hashtag, just what was coming up in my regular feed so maybe I'm not following too many hateful people.

I think that it's important to note that people may be taking aim at "Lara" the scripted television character who makes some very poor decisions and not Lara Bingle the person. We weren't shown the 'real' media-savvy Lara, but a more ditzy "tee hee I'm just a silly girl" version which is her brand and which is rightfully ripe for criticism as it's damaging to women to be held to such an infantile standard. I think she's better than that.

Overall I think it wasn't a strong show, as her life really isn't super captivating and she hasn't offered many insights or opinions a la the Kardashians who are much more forceful. She seems sweet and is obviously very pretty, but Australian non-competitive reality shows haven't done too well in the past and it will be interesting to see how many viewers come back next week to watch.
