Are We Going Today?

We are going to the snow this weekend as guests of Toyota. It's only my second time. The smalls first time. Matt's champing at the bit to get in the car and hit the road. He's a mad keen snowboarder. Me? Clearly I am no pro. I don't even know what shoes to wear. I've been questioning everyone - I am not convinced my ballet flats and high heeled boots are going to cut it.

The kids are beside themselves excited. They've been asking to leave every single day. "Are we going yet?" has superseded "Are we there yet?"

We're having a lesson on Saturday morning - and I've let Matt know he can go off snowboarding while I do that. Particularly if it's a hot male instrutor called Sven.

Other than that - we are free agents for the weekend. Out of Sydney and into the snow. YEEEW!

Have you got any top tips for being in the snow? I have NO idea.Except for the fact: it is cold, white and wet.

Bianca Jagger image from Andy Warhol's Interview via here. Absolutely nothing to do with snow, but pretty, yes?!

We took our kids cross country skiing on the weekend for the first time. They loved it and left me for dead.
Don't forget sunscreen, drink lots of water and fill your pockets up with treats for energy! Your little ones will love it.

We are going on Sunday for 3 days too! MIght cross paths. Wondering with this heat in Sydney if the snow is melting already? Hubby says apparently best snow in years...Has been few years since we have been and our kids excited too since they can't remember seeing snow. I am just worried if my ski legs will return. Have had to beg and borrow clothes as are old stuff is pretty ratty and too big on me now ... do we care what we wear on the snow? Think only those who live there can afford the snow fashions! No heels required, sunnies a good tip, lots of chap stiks, thermals, mad beany and gloves! Thats what I am packing. Enjoy!! Might see you on the slopes :-)

Best shoes are waterproof...nothing worse than cold, wet toes! Children can wear gum boots, as can adults or you can buy apres boots (waterproof soft boots for the snow) or just wear snowboarding or ski boots around (yeah, they make you walk like you have issues, but they do the job ;)

I'll second the snacks - food is expensive at the snow and it's a pain to have to trudge to the food outlets.

Have fun...I love the snow :)

As long as: Ballet Flats = wellingtons and High heel boots = 12 pairs of woolen socks. then you'll be right. Also screw the skies and snowboard - go tobogganing - heaps easier to master and less far to fall.

I wear walking boots when I go. Waterproof and a good grip for slippery icy bits! Enjoy it! I started snowboarding 2 years ago and I'm hooked! A must though is padded or armoured shorts and knee pads they've saved me from quite a few sore bums and knees!Oh and dont forget a helmet!

Rent apres boots for sure. They are $10 or something crazy and it will make ALL the difference.

Really good lip balm is key, as is mini Mars Bars for energy. In Aus the snow can still get quite warm on some days so I'd layer up - that way you can peel off each layer once you work up a sweat learning to ski/snowboard. Any kind of water proof sneaker with good traction on the soles will work - it's always super embarrassing slipping over on the icy concrete in front of 100 people eating lunch!
