I saw the trailers for 'Tracks' a while back, but a shortage in babysitter supply meant we just never got there.
Matt and I got to watch it on Friday night, tucked up in bed together (I know, so old, so fogey). It was well worth the wait.
Starring Mia Wasikowska and Adam Driver (my favourite!) and based on the story of Australian woman Robyn Davidson who set off on a nine month journey crossing the Australian desert, with only camels for company.
The scenery and cinematography is completely breathtaking, the characters compelling.
Directed by John Curran (The King's Speech) it's a story that will have you glued to your screen, laughing, crying - and in complete awe. Mia plays the role beautifully, and Adam Driver - well I could never hate him. He's beautiful, gentle and intelligent as photographer Rick Smolan.
Put in short, it's an inspiration to cram as much into your life, to believe you can, and to do it - even when there are doubters.

Not an original adventure, but definitely a challenging one - motherhood has been the most exciting, rewarding, painful and enjoyable adventure I've ever undertaken. It takes bucketfuls of guts, courage and patience! I've bunjiied, dived, ballooned, trekked, wandered and explored all over the world, but my kids are the adventure that I come home for.
To save US$100 I once caught a bus (rather than fly) from La Paz to Rurrenabaque in the Amazon (Bolivia). Pitch black darkness, a driver high on coca leaves, goats pooping on the floor, screaming tourists, windows that didn't close, a midnight stop by the drug police to search for contraband, a "dinner" stop where the only thing on offer was chicken soup (containing only innards) and all completed on the "World's most dangerous road" (according to the UN). I cried, I prayed, I vomited and I survived. Brave or stupid? Hindsight is always 20/20...
The bravest adventure I've ever taken on is following my heart and marrying my darling hubby. He's quite the opposite of me; he's laid back, all in good time, while I'm organised, do it, and do it now! When I went into labour with our daughter, he was relaxed, taking his time to get ready, even though my contractions were coming 10 minutes apart, then five minutes, then two minutes. He was finally ready to go - stopping by the DVD library to return a DVD, and then taking the scenic route - past the bay - on the way to hospital. By the time we made it to the hospital, I was well and truly ready, fully dilated and gave birth to our daughter just two and half hours later. It happened so fast that hubby was disappointed that he didn't get time to try out all the equipment in the birthing suite! But I reckon having more time to play with our beautiful daughter is the better deal!
PS - I took myself off to the movies - leaving hubby at home with our daughter - and saw 'Tracks'. I loved it. I'd love to be able to share it with hubby at home!
Making the move to Australia - with no job organised, no security. But here I am 7 years later and I couldn't be happier.
Travelling the legth of the River Murray from the SA border with a friend in a flat bottomed tinnie. Had many fun nights camoing on the river banks and considering I can't swim really enjoyed the whole adventure
The trip to pathology all by myself......yes I am a grown woman who is terrified of needles, injections and the sight of blood so this was the bravest adventure of my whole entire life to date lol
The most brave adventure I have ever taken is the death of my best friend. You will do anything for the people you love and unfortunately due to a long illness she knew she didn't have long. So putting my feelings aside and ensuring she was able to do everything she wanted to do, from rally driving to sky diving (and yes I jumped too AARRRGGGHHH!) we took on the adventure together.
10 years ago I was a mute living in hospital and battling chronic epilepsy. Now after 3 years of fitness and social training, I'm kicking butts playing roller derby, with confidence!
My husband, 10year old daughter and myself went on a road trip in one day from Coolum Qld to Emu Plains NSW. We learnt a lot about each other, we fought and talked about life and sang to daggy old Michael Jackson songs. It was a brave trip that we will never do again.
The journey from paid employment to home duties. Closely followed by part-time university student and part-time entrepreneur. There have been some rough and tough patches along the way and I have to frequently remind myself that my biggest obstacle is self-doubt.
This adventure is my own and it will take a life-time to fulfil. However, getting there will be half the fun.
Parenthood, that's a brave adventure :)
