Wrinkles Are Better Than Plastic Surgery

Halleluljah! Monica Bellucci is preaching to the converted over here at Chez PottyMouthMama.

What was it I was banging on about, how almost refreshing it is to see women ageing gracefully a la Dame Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett et al.

I don't want to look at an inflated face that can't express. Not only is it immensely difficult to read facial expressions, but it looks like a fembot meets Stepford Wife.

Emote. Emote. Emote.

I've also been thinking about the message botox sends to our small people. That we value youth. And at any cost, we'll try to cling onto those last moments of youth, by injecting our face with a toxin. That ageing isn't valued in our society.

I'm out on a limb here. Botox for cosmetic use is age-ist. It says: I'm afraid of getting old. I don't want anyone to see me as old.

Ageing can be confronting. And it does sneak up on you. But you're never going to stop it. So you might have a puffy volumised face, but the rest of your body heads south all the same. Sorry, it didn't get the memo.

I don't understand the problem with ageing. The alternative is being dead. I choose old age, wrinkles, greys and saggy bits! Not dementia, though. I don't want that.

My mama died 2 years ago at 51, so we'll never get to see Her growing old. That alone is enough reason for me to say no to Botox and surgery. The wrinkles, the laugh lines, each one tells a story about our life and nothing can be more beautiful than that.

I love the wrinkles that are popping up on my face lately. I like that they're happy looking wrinkles (if that makes sense). I especially like the ones on the corner of my eyes. They look as if a sparrow has left little footprints on my face.
I wish other parts of my face would mature though...I'm a 32 year old and still get pimples. That gives me the tom titties :(
As far as Monica Belluci goes. Lady is a friggen goddess. Love her.

i'm all for it - aging gracefully. i'm trying my best. not afraid to admit that finding my first grey hair this year (at 37 years of age mind you) was a bit of a traumatising experience. i haven't gone crazy and plucked it or dyed it. i'm leaving it. and as far as wrinkles go....no way, now how am i getting botox. and, as MissBrown says, the laugh lines all tell stories about our lives. i love that idea.

I watch her in French and Italian films, so lovely! Of course you're both right, I hate watching films and not being able to tell if the actor/actress is happy or not. Did I miss the facial expression?

DO NOT pluck grey hairs! Trust me.

I agree with this statement, but a friend of mine got some samples from http://www.skinvitality.ca/ and she had some great results... I love her new fresh look.
However, I don't think I will try this kind of procedure, because I'm afraid of how I will look after and in my opinion, wrinkles are something normal... every person will have them sooner or later.
