But Baby It's Cold Outside

For once, this song is strangely appropriate to Sydney.

Today I went to work in jeans, a wool knit, knee length boots and a scarf, and didn't take a stitch off. The girls were laughing at me, in the middle of 'Summer' (and I use that term veeeheeery loosely), rugged up for Winter.

Weather - let's get it together!

Which is one reason we dressed the house early for Christmas.

And while I'm on the topic of it being ridiculously cold and wet in Sydney, when it should be blaringly, glaringly hot, Tiny has been having tantrums because she wants to see the snow. Not just one isolated tantrum either, it's been a series of tantrums on seperate days. The first day she put her gumboots on and we all got into the car and drove to the supermarket. Then she asked where we were going when we got back into the car. "Home." "No we're not! We're going to the snow!"

Way to let a toddler down. I had to educate her on the fact that snow was unlikely - however, who knows with this weather, but heck, I'll keep her posted.

Following days Tiny has requested to go to the snow. And has stood outside with gumboots on waiting to see the snow. Alas it's just rain and jacaranda flowers. Prince sang 'Purple Rain', perhaps he could record 'Purple Snow'? Anything's possible with this weather. Right?
image is from the ever awesome Kiddley - I think Tiny, the Doctor and I might make our own little Christmassy snowglobes!

Summer, Where For Art Thou?

Just kidding hot stinky days, I don't miss you. I'm enjoying these rather cool overcast grey, grey days. Bring on le rain I say! Ban the humidity too. Yes, let's call for a ban on humidity because it ain't no friend of me (or my hair for that matter).

I wonder what you're up to in this weather. It's perfect for:

- snuggling
- watching movies
- tea! tea! tea!
- baking
- ironing (er! pretend I never typed that)
- listening to music and doodling

Every time I hear the Sydney Festival ad on tv I squeal into the room so fast I am definitely faster than a racing car. Without doubt. Why do I run for the ad? Because of this beautiful song. The Middle East had me at hello.

Garden Gnome

Since the sun is making a special guest appearance in our garden, Noah and I are trying to make the most of getting outside. Phew! I was going stir crazy - and Noah had morphed into some kind of crazed TV addict wanting back-to-back DVD viewing which was also driving me crazy.
Noah has taken on the role of carer of the ducks. He usually brings them out in the mornings, and puts them to bed at night. He was doing so the other night when all was silent outside. I thought to myself that it was a little curious, since he is so keen on talking and giving me a blow by blow account of... everything. I stuck my head out - and there's little Noah, holding the duck by the neck.
My parents often tell me a story about when I was small, and went next door to see their ducklings. I returned, triumphant, holding a ducky by the neck for them to see. Sadly I killed it. Hopefully this is not a genetic thing. At least Noah's duck was still kicking it, and promptly ran away once I asked Noah to release it.
TV, anyone?
