Mama Punishes Herself

Sometimes I wonder about myself. I really do. I see Tiny doing something she really shouldn't be. But I think, oh well, she's having a great time, I'll let her go. And then I wind up picking up hundreds - maybe even thousands of these bead things from all over the ground (let's just say that life got a whole lot more colourful after these shots were taken). What's that saying about making a rod for my own back...? Next time I will not let Tiny get unruly with the beads. Next time I will hide the beads and not let her go crazy with the beads. Reminds me of this.. Yes. History does repeat itself.

But it's pretty.. And it reminded me of a weird dream I had last night of a rainbow that had grey hearts punched out of it. Weird. Yes.

Sorry for the dull nature of my photies. It's grey here. And I have no control over the sunshine.

He he he. I have the same problem/s. Buttons, beads, marbles, cooking days with rice and legumes and play dough. That stuff never stays in one place. But they also end up so intensely absorbed in it all? Sometimes for hours. It's a tough call.

With me it's food. I leave Toddler to eat her spaghetti bolognaise by herself to give myself 10 minutes peace, KNOWING that when I return I'll have 20 minutes of cleaning up to do.
But she looks so cute shovelling food all over herself... and I really need to check my emails....!

Absolutely let her play with them but make a play or race of tidying them up so that she is responsible for both sides of the coin. That is where the rod for your back comes in.

You could always just vacuum it up if you had to.

I remember when Pip was four I finally bought him a pair of left handed scissors. It was the first time that he could make scissors work. He went through almost a ream of paper - snip, snip, snipped into the smallest of pieces. He was so excited by it that is was a joy to see. I just vacuumed it up each afternoon.

There are so few activities we do for pure joy.

Glen bought Caleb this marble stacking -game -nightmare -toy from hell thing. Poppy and Caleb so love knocking it all to bits and I spend more time rebuilding it up than anyone does playing it, but they love that naughty moment right before they smash it.

oh i know those beads. it's amazing how far they can travel. Do let us know the most bizarre place you find one! (sure looked like fun though)
