The Incidental Thrifter

Today we were on a walk and just decided to drop into our local op shop. We're crazy and spontaneous like that. Flying by the seat of our pants.

Hello Bargains!

My big boy scored an even bigger Little Tikes truck, and is totally enamoured with it, even stating 'This is the biggest truck I've ever seen!'. He conducted a car wash with it this afternoon, and has even been riding around on it.

I scored too. A gorgeous old heart shaped baking tin. Cuisenaire rods. A 50c Golden Book called 'The Good Humor Man' (?!), and a vintage children's pattern for my sister.

Am I happy with that thrifting? You bet your bottom bippy!

Things Are Heating Up

Who knew Ebay could be so excited or addictive? Well I knew it was both of those, but as a virgin seller, it's pretty thrilling to watch the bidding war over your goodies.

I'm selling a mix of things - vintage ladies and men's, some old Zimmermann, some old TopShop maternity, all hard to part with, but there's only so many clothes you can live with before your house becomes one big walk in wardrobe.

Look me up - I'm listed as lexlou79.

Putting a Stop on Procrastinating

I've finally done it. I am a self-proclaimed hoarder. I hold onto things for waaay too long, and have piles of junk hidden around the house under the guise 'I might just need it'. It's because I am a sentimental fool, everything sparks off memories, and when I am sorting through that pile of old wrapping paper, or all those old birthday cards - they trigger memories that I would otherwise have forgotten.

Anyway, since returning home from house sitting, I've decided I need to purge all this stuff. Really, if I haven't unpacked a box since we last moved (which was three years ago) I don't really need that stuff - and can't justify it. And anyway, it's just dust collecting.

So I have started listing some stuff on Ebay. It's hard. Oh my goodness, it's hard. That's why I like giving stuff to charity, I can just wave goodbye to it as it exits my life via the big red box in the supermarket car park. But Ebay means I must be made of steelier stuff. I have to wait seven whole days til I can say sayonara! But it could also mean a little bit of pocket money too. A little bit more money to grow my fabric stash.

Now I have listed five items on Ebay - and am now running around the house like a crazy lady trying to find more things to sell. I didn't realise it was so exciting. Matt can stop grumbling about my hoarding - because now our house is in jeopardy of becoming an empty little space as I chase the thrill of the sell. Here's to putting a stop to procrastinating and the cheap thrill of Ebaying.

Pretty Pillowcases - A Whole Week of Them!

Drawing inspiration from Kootoyoo's week of pillowcases being hosted by Pip... I'm a late starter but here I am with some of my collection..

I love trawling my local op-shops for pre-loved pillowcases. I'm a mad keen hunter, and I'm always looking to add to my ever-growing collection.

The way pre-loved pillowcases are already worn and soft.. Perfect for beauty sleep. Perfect for day-dreaming, lying in bed (on those rare days when you can sneak in a few extra minutes snuggled up)...

This first pair were from my sister, Sheridan p/cases in immaculate condition. In fact, if I remember correctly they still had their tags on them! I LOVE using these babies.

This next couple were a lucky find. An old couple across the road were selling a lot of things as they were sadly moving to a nursing home. Their family were selling all these beautiful bits and bobs, such as the purple/blue pillowcases.. Later on I saw they had thrown a great crochet rug into a skip. It was raining and I meant to return to save it, but alas, the skip had been removed and the rug had been taken away.. Luckily I did buy these pillowcases and treasure them.

The white pillowcase was bought from a fab shop that was in Lilyfield - Frou Frou, run by the even more fab Parisa. Unfortunately she moved up to the Blue Mountains (their gain!), but I have such fond memories of her shop.. And the subsequent heart flutters it made me have!

Oh No It's A DFO!

Mum and I took the kids out on an adventure today. We set out for DFO.

I had been dreaming of bargains. Bargains galore. I was thinking gelato toned cardigans for $15. I was thinking a great fitting pair of pants for $40. I could see the savings stacking up in our bank account. Oh the joy I would feel.

What a rude shock I was in for.

We set out early. I thought we'd beat the crowds. Get home in time for lunch.

We got there in good time, and headed straight to Country Road. When I walk into these places I usually feel a bit flustered. I run from one stand to the next, checking out this and that. Then I realise my head is a muddle and that it's all a bit too much. I then decided to get serious. But oh how disappointed I was to be. The sales were exactly the same as they had instore. All my dreams were dashed. I thought this place was bargain heaven - I only walked away with two pairs of pants for Scout and a t-shirt for Noah. Poop!

We did the rounds, and over all, I felt a bit jipped. Noah did also score some little red Ked's for $18 - which made him jump up and down and infused him with a whole truckload of energy. I fed Scout while he did a few runs and jumps in his new shoes, much to Mum and my bemusement. But other than that - not so many bargains.

Speaking of bargains, Woolworths has got bulk boxes of Huggies Nappies on sale for $29.99.. Now that's what I call a bargain.
