It's Grey Gardens.

Fashion Friday (Delayed Broadcast):: Pirates

Arrrgh - I'm sorry seadogs. I've been eating oranges and sauerkraut by the bucket full. Otherwise I've been brushing up on my sea shanties, doing jigs and getting my sea legs.

Hopefully my Fashion Friday friends have not mutinied. Otherwise I'll have to make them walk the plank.

Yer see my pretties, X marks the spot - but because my name is LeXi - that be the treasure you be loking for. ARRRRGH.

Jacket: vintage
Scarf: a gift
Jeans: Country Road
Boots: Costume National
Bustier: on loan from my friend Clare
Hat: straight from the dress up box
Parrot is optional.

Fashion Friday is on holiday this week. FF will resume next week.

Fashion Friday:: The Love Boat

Love. exciting and new. Come aboard. We're expecting yooooou.

Well golly gee. Another Friday. Another day of nose-to-the-grindstone fashion. I am nothing if I am not dedicated to the cause.

Here I am, ready to direct you to your afternoon activities aboard The Love Boat. Clipboard is mandatory!

Would you believe the girls at work have no idea what The Love Boat is? So they dressed in nautical stripes. In return I made them scrub the deck, walk the plank and then sent them home with scurvy.

And love. Life's sweetest reward. Let it flow. It floats back to you. The Love Boat. Soon we'll be making another run. The Love Boat - promises something for everyone. Set a course for adventure, your mind on a new romance. and love won't hurt anymore, it's an open smile, on a friendly shore. It's looooooooooove!  Welcome aboard it's love!

Apologies, Captain Stubing has had me rehearsing our theme song all week - I can't shake it out of my head.

Are you playing Fashion Friday? Let me know and I'll add you to the blog roll.

Next week's theme: The Librarian.

Fashion Friday:: The Wedding Singer (AKA Bridesmaids)

Holler! It's Fashion Friday where we get to play dress ups for a day.

This week's theme was tied in with one of the gals in the office getting hitched this weekend.

So what did I pull out of my wardrobe to conjure a mega-watt wedding singer? Why this leopard print, halter-neck, backless cat suit of course. What else would I wear?!

And my hair? Drawing inspiration from Jane Bennett of Pride and Prejudice fame meets 80s cabaret star - it contained way too much hair spray and some ridiculous curls as executed by my largely unused curling irons.

That bottle of Veuve? Well it would be crass to be holding a bottle of Passion Pop at 11am, right?!

There's a common theme eventuating: leopard print. I didn't realise I had more in my wardrobe. Et voila! Hey presto - cougar on tap.

Check out the other players of Fashion Friday over yonder in my blog roll. Want to play too? Next week's theme is: JUBILEE. Time to dig out your tiara baby.

Fashion Friday:: It's A Thug's Life

I am incredibly passionate. About method acting. I take a theme, and then I roll with it. I live it and breathe it. You wouldn't have wanted to cross paths with me yesterday. I was to the extreme.

This weeks theme was: It's A Thug's Life. Tell me I did not disappoint. I even have knuckle tatts. And hoop earrings. And did I mention my belt.

One of my friends at work asked if I had a dress-up box for myself at work, and I must confess, yes. Yes I do.

This is Cara and I. Thugging it up big stylie.

Anyway - next week I'm starting something new here at PottyMouthMama. Perhaps you'd like to play along? As I do every week for myself (and my colleagues) I set a little theme. So next week's theme is: Being papped in Lake Como.

Let me know if you want to play along too and I'll add you to the blog roll. Too easy!

Natural Habitats

I have done my 21 days of habit making. I'm not overly convinced about my:

a) dedication to some of my causes
b) habit-forming success

But here's for the debrief. I am sure it makes for scintillating reading:

- water - yep more water
- exercise - ergh, negatory, I am going to puff out pretty soon if I continue with my chocolate intake
- throwing away things - yep I am excelling here
- housework - yep kicking goals
- meal planning - slightly better

How did you do? Did you kick some goals? (it's pretty hard to kick goals in a full-length habit, right?).

Back In The Habit - Group Pow-WOW!

Back in the habit is busting my bollocks, and I'm not succeeding in much other than my flossing. It wasn't a hard habit to rekindle.

So let's take a look at a few of our other habit formers over the past two weeks, let's see if anyone is flying high:

list.Lis has been getting buns of steel

ChoccyBangles has been showing off her buns of steel

Babble On has been reconnecting with old friends

Little Lady is kicking all sorts of goals - she's gone habit mad!

Coffee, Cake and Sunday is raising a family AND a garden - check it out.

As for me:

- Water is up
- Exercise is nil
- Flossing - yes!
- Housework - yes!
- Is that it? Can I lie down now?
Only one more week to go until our habits are so watertight we'll be doing them by rote. Let's go people!

Habitual:: Day Two

So friends, it's day two. It's day two, and what have you got to show for it?

Me?
I got rid of more than one thing (but maybe I should ration these things out so that by day 18 I'm not struggling with tossing something aloft?).

I drank more water. And, er, two glasses of wine.

Teeth flossing is on track - check!

Exercise... Er.. I've been sorting out bills. Does this count?

I've realised something profound. Without trying, I easily do one hour of housework without even thinking about it. Apparently I need to do about 15 hours of housework to get on top of this shamozzle.

Are you playing and you're not on the Cast & Crew over yonder? Jeepers! If so, let me know!
If you've been working hard on your habit-forming - here's your daily reward.

Happy! Happy 101

Flossy-P has tagged me with the Happy 101 meme. And of course I'll play (yikes, I have some others to play, I haven't forgotten happy taggers I am just ridiculously behind!).

The rules are pretty darn simple: Name ten things I like - 3-2-1 let's go!
  • Baking and eating cakes and sweeties
  • Wearing vintage
  • Friends and family
  • High fiving
  • Snuggling with my snuggle bunnies
  • Dreaming about travelling with our wee family
  • My ugg(ly) boots
  • Going through old photos
  • Receiving surprises in the mail
  • Reading about Jack the Ripper (yeah I know, I am a weirdo)

And ten merry bloggers to play along:

Go hard or go home.

Back In The Habit

I keep seeing things around about forming habits. It's everywhere I go. Every corner I turn. Under every leaf I flip (because I am always flipping leaves). No stone will be left unturned that is not banging on about habits. In fact, I can seriously say the habit forming epidemic is gripping the world. In a tight, overbearing grip.

And it got me to thinking about flossing my teeth.

Big jump there, huh?

But not really.

Earlier in the year I talked about things I would do. Not New Year's Resolutions (because those, damn fool, are made to be broken). Mine was a list of realistic things I wanted to do this year. Such as, er, flossing my teeth.

I was going incredible well until I got sick. I think I had flossed my teeth every single night (bar one) until I got sick, and that was six-ish weeks ago. My gums were sore and I couldn't face the soreness. Please get out the world's smallest violin.

Have a I lost you yet? Here. I'll throw some key words at you. Gingivitis. Heart disease. Bad breath. Not pretty? No. You don't say!

Well friends, it's time I set myself back on my merry path.

But wait! There's more!

Why don't you join me on this merry habit-forming trip? Come skip down the 21-day path with me. Have you got a habit you want to form? Do you? Sing it with me: do you? (Don't you want me?)

- Maybe you want to eat more chocolate
- Maybe you want to blog every day
- Maybe you want to get back into reading
- Maybe you want a nightly canoodle with your lover
- Do you want to go bike riding every day?
- Meal plan so you don't get to 5:30pm and have a meltdown and everyone winds up eating baked beans/eggs/leftovers (oh you don't do that, nope, me neither)

- Catch up with a friend every week?
- Are you wanting to learn to rollerskate?
- Perhaps this is not your speed at all. Maybe you just want to do the crossword each and every night?

Then this is for you! Get in the habit with PottyMouthMama!

Here's what we're going to do. You check in once a week with me for the next 3 weeks (that's so short, it won't hurt a bit, trust me, I'm an expert). It's not so much that it's intimidating, but I WILL hold you accountable and be asking you about your habit forming!

Think about it over the weekend, then we can kick off, and you check back into PMM on Saturday. It's a 21-step support group.

I don't want anyone signing up that wants to form a habit of picking their nose. Thanks but no thanks.

Are you in? Do you want to get BACK IN THE HABIT?

If so, grab the button and be gone on your merry habit forming ways (and add your name/link to the list).

My super fabulous friend Anna has made me two ridiculously awesome buttons (so damn RAD!) to choose from. I am seriously loving my makeover and think I will thwart any efforts made by Sally Field to become the non-flying Nun.

Michelle from Leni & Rose has done an ace to the power of wicked job of coding. You can pop over to her blog for deets on how to upload the button yourself (she has all sorts of tips and tricks up her blogging sleeve).

Seven Things..

This week I have been tagged by Wendy of the Textured Leaf and Anna at Rummey Bears for a Kreative Blog award. I have to tell you 7 things about myself and then pass it on to 7 blogging buddies (it's kind of like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers but without the nuptials.)

And 3-2-1, here we go:

1. I've worn glasses since I was 4. I had pink glasses right up until I was about 9. Then I switched to some sweet action Jonathon Sceats frames. Because let's face it, I know style.

2. When I was little I wrote stories all the time. I'd sit up on my Mum's typewriter and type them out straight from my head. I loved the clack, clack and the sleek black of that machine. I'd then illustrate them too with scratchy lines and coloured pencil.

3. I have shaved my head twice. It was an awesome feeling. Until one of my parent's very elderly friends thought I was a boy and then kept exclaiming that she thought they had had three girls, and in fact they had a boy. I sat there and didn't say a thing while my parents kept saying, 'No no, she's a girl.' She was deaf and partially blind, so probably continued thinking I was a boy. Shortly after I grew my hair back.

4. One night I was out with friends and this guy approached me. I exclaimed 'Wow you look like... YOU ARE TOADIE!' - it was Toadie from Neighbours. He quickly left me alone. Phew.

5. Every night before bed I insisted on my Dad tucking me in really tight. So tight I couldn't move. If I moved and and the sheets lost that tension, I called out to him to come and tuck me back in. I now realise why he would get so annoyed at me.

6. When I was growing up I wanted to be: a lawyer (until I found out how long they go to uni, er no thanks), a teacher, a writer, or a TV presenter.
7. I am really an overweight middle-aged man sitting here in my undies and a net singlet. Ok. I'm not. But I can't think of a seventh.
Can you?
Seven things for seven bloggers. Who wants to play?
Ok. I have the guilts. My seventh thing about me: I really love to dance on tables. Back in the day when I used to frequent Hugo's I used to clear stranger's tables off and hop up and dance. It was compulsive. It was contagious. It was uber fun.
Oh and the picture above is me. See how white my teeth are? Something to do with fluoride. I must have been 3, sans glasses.

Five Faves

I'm playing along with Pip's Five Faves again.

1. Making and finishing (well almost) the above bunny. Which has rotated. Courtesy of Blogger. I just need to make his tail.
2. Having a quiet Sunday afternoon at home. That's been swell.
3. Everyone tidying the house this weekend and NOT leaving it just to me.
4. The sunshine today. It's not been so humid and it's been such a pretty day.
5. Watching this film. It was beautiful and oh-so moving. I dare you to watch with a dry eye!

What are your five faves?

The End.

Five Faves

I'm joining in with Pip's brand spanking new meme. Five Faves.

I'm letting you in on my very favourite funny websites. They each never fail to make me laugh. To the point Matt hears me laughing and says "Oh no Lexi" because he knows I will be on there for ages and ages and ages giggling to myself. Sad I know. But not sad. But sad. But definitely not sad. FUNNY!
Sorry I Missed Your Party.

Cake Wrecks.

Go Fug Yourself.

I Can Has Cheezburger

Hook yourself up and play too!

Five Things

I'm bored. I'm boring. I've got nothing to blog about. Therefore I'm making my own meme. Won't you play along?

Here's five things I could not live without (in no particular order):

1. Family - who could be without my nutty, crazy, chattery, creative, all-embracing family? Not me.

2. Tea - I dig on tea. I have lots of dialogues on tea. I've posted previously about Nonny (my grandmother) asking us to toss the used tea leaves on her beloved roses. My other grandmother Mars used to drink hers strong with a slice of lemon. I drink all sorts of tea. And I dig tea.

3. Sleep. Right this moment I could drop offffasw.esgtsooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Zzzz. Oh sorry about that. Must need a kip. Am I going to get one? Nope.

4. Dreams. I dream of moving house. I dream of doing something new. I dream of gardening more. I dream of my babes growing up (I don't need to dream that they're doing it themselves). I dream of more dates with Matt. I dream of dancing on tables. I like to dream. And I like to dream big. And in technicolour. With sparkles. And fairy lights. And glitter. And more sparkles.

5. Music - there's nothing like discovering a new band, a new song. I would go slightly bonkers (heck I already am) if I don't listen to some tunes during the day. Fuel for some impromptu crazy dancing, inducer sometimes of sleep, I like me some music.

What are five things that you love? Don't think too hard. Just get them down! Tell me if you're playing.
---------------------
I was given two tickets to see Human Nature & Smokey Robinson in the Hunter Valley on Saturday 12 December. I can't go, but I wondered if anyone would like these tickets? Email me if you're interested!

Blogtoberfest Day 21: Bedside

Before anyone gets their knickers in a knot, I have no idea whose this photo is. If it's yours let me know and of course I will fully credit you! I stuck it in my inspiration folder, and er, I didn't tag it correctly. I love it. I'd like it to be my bed. Maybe we could share? I come with a husband and two smalls. It'd be squashy. But as long as you didn't get your mattress off the side of the road, we're tight.

Anyway, what am I banging on about today? I am the THEME QUEEN for Pip's new meme. Are you a signed up member? If not, click over here (but not before you read this). My theme for this week - BEDSIDE.

Are you fostering a range of dust bunnies next to your bed? Do you have a forest of used tissues tucked under the mattress? Is bedtime precarious because of your leaning tower of books? Or are you growing something in an old glass of water? We want to see it. Messy. Tidy. Styled. Whatevers. Just show! Ok you can go forth and click over to Pip now!

My Place and Yours:: On The Shelf

I could show you my collection of stilettos given they've been put on the shelf because these days, I don't really want to pounce around the house in a pair of heels, only to trip over the Doctor's collection of trains, or Tiny's menagerie of softies. I'd need a stack hat for that, and that would ruin my eternal bad hair day. So I won't, because who wants to look at my collection of unused sad stilettos, only to be cast into a sad-on? Not me!

So I'll show you this shelf instead.
:: a deco mirror that was being tossed about by a colleague
:: a Sukie calendar
:: a shot of my Mum and Dad in courting days (I love the word courting)
:: a bird print from a church sale - 50 cents
:: soldier skittles found in the bin
:: vintage plate found no doubt in a church oppy
:: Matt's collection of beer bottle tops (ahem)
Are you playing My Place and Yours? You're not? Well got over to Mikes and hook yourself up with the fun-skis.
I'm this week's Theme Queen, but my crown has fallen off and I haven't figured mine out yet. I promise I will keep thinking.

My Band

If only I was cool enough to be in a band. If only I had one inch of musical talent. I took piano lessons when I was 9. My Mum says I lasted 6 weeks. In my mind it was 6 months. Of pure torture. I didn't want to practice, I just wanted to be a musical genius.

So this will have to do. Played it? Playing? Gosh it's all about the memes for me these days.

EDIT:: My band's name is Indra III. It was Friendship (Pittsburgh), but I didn't dig it, I'm in a band and I can change it at a whim right?

My album title: "Come Back To You".

Playing (badly) at a music hall near you.

Here are the rules.

1 - Go to "wikipedia." Hit “random”or click this. The FIRST random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to "Random quotations"or click this. The last FOUR or FIVE words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”or click this. THIRD picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

awesome cover photography from greenpin. special thanks to my friend Emma who whizzed up my artwork. what a girl genius.

My Creative Space

I'm playing along with Kootoyoo's 'My Creative Space'.

This week my creative space... Is mowing the lawn. I lurve it. And I don't follow the traditional up one way down the other way fashion. No. I do roads so the Doctor can race up and down (well away from the mower), on his bike.

So while I'm not using a cow to mow the grass, I am still being a wee bit creative. Does this count?

Won't you play too?

Family Tree

Pip at Meet Me At Mikes is playing a sort of game tonight. A wee family tree. I'm playing too:

My Mars (my grandmother): sewer, crocheter, knitter, embroiderer (crazy, crazy good), painter, baker, big hugger.
My Mum: sewer, embroiderer (crazy crazy good), quilter, baker, sculptor, ceramicist, big-time hugger.
Me: sometime writer, sometime poet, novice-sewer, novice-embroiderer, super-nova hugger.

Won't you play too?
