Frocktober 2015: Day 17 - Little Tienda

Day 17 and it's time for a Little Tienda sweet action. Comfortable, stylish and perfect - so perfect for this hot weather. WOO!

Frocktober 2015: Day 3 - The Real Little Tienda

Apparently Sydney got a memo. And all that memo read was: make it hot motherfrockers. 

Yeah well she sure did. So the only way to get around on the weekend was in this light and bright frock fresh from (the real) Little Tienda. Who am I kidding? it's an old favourite. 

That navy with that embroidery and those colours. MWAH! I could emoji all over that thing.

Frocktober 2015: Day 2 - In the kitsch-en with Julia Child

Day 2 of Frocktober and I had to pull out the big guns. And when I say guns I mean whisk. 

I've gone all Julia Child and being the big boss of the big soufflé, in the kitchen and wreaking havoc.

Frocktober 2014:: Day 5 - Vintage 60s Cotton Frock Love

Today I was tired. So Matt took over the Frocktober reins. For approximately 2.45 minutes. And then he changed. And I got frocked up. Still he does look quite dashing in a frock. No?

It was a banger of a hot day which meant many of my vintage frocks were unwearable because hot and rayon? Let's not even imagine it. 

This one was given to me by my sister. A vintage (early 60s?) cotton frock that I just love to love. And to ensure I love it even more, the previous owner has hand stitched some small sections where the fabric has had a hole. It is true love.

Frocktober 2014:: Day 3 - A Day in Old Mexico (Little Tienda)

Today took me away to Mexico. Well in my dreams it did. Little Tienda supplied this beautiful hand-embroidered black linen dress, and I did the dreaming. And added oversized hoops, wedges and a winged-eye for good measure.

Day 27:: Frocktober - Princess Leia?

Usually on Sundays I like to hang out with my Star Wars friends. *ahem* I'm always chatting about Darth Vader, Hans Solo, Jabba, Yoda, oh the whole gang really. Which is why it was fitting to have a photo with these two fine fellows today.

Am I the modern day Princess Leia? 

Gosh. I hope so. 

As a tribute, I fixed my hair when I got home. Better?

This frock is a really light cotton, featuring beautiful lace inserts. Toss it on and you have yourself a really great frock for Summer, a style that's a little bit Victorian, and a whole lot of awesome.

To celebrate another milestone, I dressed up a la Betty Draper.

It's called low-key weekend, and it was hot, and the perfect antidote to that coupled with high-maintenance yesterday was this Tilly by Lee Mathews maxi dress. With Mum's belt. Of course.

If I Hit $1000 Tonight - I Go To Work In Sequins:: Frocktober

I've got this thing happening - I wore pants for the last few days, just to ensure I could get through the whole of Frocktober in nothing but frocks. It mightn't sound like much, but by the last days, wearing frocks becomes a bit of a drag. Honestly. Try it!

So tonight I've issued the challenge: if I hit $1000 in funds for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, I wear sequins to the office tomorrow. I work in a business park. Am I painting the picture?

Frocktober 2013:: Let's GO!

If you're a long-time reader, then there's no doubt you've heard me banging on about Frocktober. And I'd love you to sponsor me. Please.

Without question, it's my favourite time of the year. It is when I get the crazies and wear a different frock for every single day of October. 31 dresses in 31 days. Except it's more than 31 dresses because sometimes I frock up to go out at night. What the frock?!

So if you've never heard of Frocktober, you're probably thinking - what the frock is Frocktober?

Well my frocking friend, it's to raise awareness and money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. Last year I raised almost $5,000. This year I'm hoping to blow that out of the water and raise even more money for this most excellent charity.

Why? Because I'm a woman. But not only that. Ovarian cancer is an insidious disease, often known as a “silent-killer” as symptoms are vague and often strike without warning. Unlike many other cancers there is no early detection test.  Consequently ovarian cancer is often diagnosed in its late stages and only 20%-30% of woman survive beyond five years as compared to a 80-100% survival rate when detected early.

So please sponsor me this month - every dollar counts, and I'd be ever so chuffed if you gave up a coffee ($5) to help me reach my target!

Since the devastating collapse of the Rana Plaza garment factory building in Bangladesh, which killed over 1,100 people - we've all been shocked. And hopefully we've all started questioning: how is it possible for a t-shirt to be made and sold for $5? Who makes that garment? What is the effect of our purchase on who made it? 

Instead of wetting our pants with the excitement of bargain fashion - think big picture. Who are we hurting for a quick fashion hit? 

Conceived by three digital media students from the "Digital Harvard" - Hyper Island as a reaction to the collapse, The Rana Plaza looks like a fashion store website - but the clothes and accessories don't really exist. Instead the payments are going to help ActionAid Australia with human rights programs around the world. 

Pretty cool, huh?

Make a purchase from this online store - and you'll be helping others in the process. This experience pushes for better and safer conditions for garment workers in their own countries.

KMART and Target have became the first Australian retailers to sign onto an accord to improve safety in their factories.  But this weekend 140 female garment workers fell sick at their factory outside Bangladesh's capital Dhaka after apparently drinking contaminated water, the second such incident of its kind in two weeks. Officials confirmed the workers were making garments for western labels.

Of Bangladesh’s two million garment industry workers, 85% are women and girls. Most earn the legal minimum wage of just 0.16 Australian dollars per hour. Factory workers are routinely harassed and bullied in their workplaces and denied their legal rights such as overtime, paid leave, childcare, and safe working conditions.

Catherine Esposito of ActionAid Australia said that boycotting fashion brands was not the answer - as it could lead to job losses and even more hardship for workers around the world. 

Good Movie - Good Cause

Between now and February 4th, hotfoot it to Hoyts and watch Oscar nominee Naomi Watts and UNICEF ambassador Ewan McGregor in The Impossible.

Why?

Because for every ticket sold, $1 from each ticket sale will be donated to UNICEF Australia. 

That's a pretty good wicket!

Some background, if you please:

The 2004 Boxing Day tsunami was one of the worst humanitarian emergencies in history.

UNICEF was on the ground to support children and their families immediately after the wave’s impact, helping to distribute basic food and health supplies as well as caring for children who were separated from family or orphaned. 

The Impossible is based on the true story of one family’s effort to survive this unforgiving disaster.

Day 5:: Frocktober - A New Baby Is Born. And Barbara Cartland Must Feel So Proud

Today something wonderful happened. I awoke bright eyed and bushy-tailed to a text message from one of my bestest friends to let me know her baby had made a surprise arrival and she was here! She had arrived.

So right from the get go - it was all about this wee baby girl - and of course I had to channel my inner Barbara Cartland and go pink. Top. To. Toe. 

"They" say don't work with children or animals. I chose to work with both for the lower image. And you can see the results. Tiny Linda Evangelista had a hissy fit and I ended up cranky trying to conjure Babs + get to work on time = MUMMY FAIL! Tiny Linda Evangelista wasn't feeling it today.
