I Just Got In Trouble From My Dad

He was like that middle guy up there, his jaw dropped and he was not impressed by his youngest daughter.

Like not just a little bit of trouble - but fo' realz trouble. My Dad is outraged! You want to know why? For April Fooling you. My Dad was not impressed. My parents rang me and asked what the heck I was doing tossing blogging to the curve.

Did everyone forget - it's APRIL FOOL'S DAY! Oh crumbs. I totally thought you would have known that had Prank Patrol all over it.

It's true friends. And even more honestly, I have been wracked with guilt for pranking you. I mean Ashton Kutcher could be proud of me. But I feel woefully naughty.

I now have one of those giant knots in my stomach feeling so, so guilty. I am sorry. Terribly sorry for being so naughty and mischievous.

Will you forgive me for being so naughty?

On the flip side, I was completely heartened by your comments. And to be even more completely honest, I feel like I've been struggling a bit on my blog - so those buoyant words you shared with me, well they've boosted me. Because for a long time I've not felt I've been hitting it out of the ball park, I've just been playing T-Ball on my blog and it's been left wanting. But I have plenty to blog about.

So perhaps we can say this was a mini-break?

After all, I need some votes to send me to NYC and score me a Ford for the year so I can stop borrowing my MIL's car during the week. A girl can dream, right??

So What Can I Tell You About This Week?

Oh man. Phew-eeee!

It's been a heck of a week. I've been body-slammed at work with lots on and I'm pooped. So I'm grasping at straws as to what to share.

- One more sleep 'til our habit forming starts, but ladies - can we start on July 2? Saturday? That is much better for me, but if you're busting to bust out your new habits, start tomorrow, I can dig it.

- It's rainy in Sydney. I love this shot of The Beatles. It reminds me of my Dad who introduced me to them - well their music, when I was around 9 or so. I loved lying on my tummy, next to the record player, listening to them, reading their lyrics. I think I was completely obsessed with the Sgt. Pepper's record cover and used to stare at it for what seemed like hours.

- Seeker Lover Keeper have released their debut album is out. You should get it. It's amazeballs.

- Bon Iver's new album is out. It's beautiful. You should get that too.

- I've eaten way too much cake.

- Matt and I are going on a date tomorrow night. Quelle romantique.

Anything to report? I'm listening.

Happy Days!

Today is Sunday. Day of Fathers. Well this particular Sunday is.

We woke to the Doctor at 6:15am shuffling in with his present, asking Daddy to open it immediately. We bought a bit of extra snooze-time, and he came back shortly after ready, ready, ready to unwrap. Tiny snuck in soon after and we've all been wide awake ever since. Yawn.

The Doctor's present was THE best. So cute. Preschool made a bound book of each child's drawing of their daddy, with a little blurb about why they love their daddy. Uber cute. UBER CUTE.

We juiced oranges. And celery. And apples. And made pikelets with a few stray raspberries tossed in for good measure.

We love our Daddy Cat!

You give good book time. You do good belly raspberries. You do great rumbles. You co-produce super ace little kidlets. ...Another?
----> Happy Father's Day to my great Dad too! I've left 43 messages for you. Maybe you can call me back?

Have You Seen Teddy Boombastic?

As a continuation of ugly July we've now lost the Doctor's very favourite bear - Teddy Boombastic. He was given to the Doctor by my Dad. Four years ago. He's well loved and goes everywhere, Christopher Robin stylie, a boy and his beloved bear.

I've looked everywhere, turned the house upside down, the car inside out, questioned the Doctor (who keeps pointing the finger at Tiny and saying she's hidden it from him).

I've called all the shops, I can't even remember if Teddy came with us, but I'm just calling anyway. Blindly. No joy.

I've called the makers - Tomfoolery - nope, no cigar. They discontinued 'Albert' a while ago (why, why teddy bear makers? Is it to prematurely age weary parents?).

Would you believe - above is the only shot I can find of my little Christopher Robin with his bear? What a bad mummy.

If anyone has seen Tomfoolery 'Albert' in a shop - I've already been told I have Buckley's of finding one, please let me know. I am desperate.

In a bid to end ugly July.
Yours,
PMM x

Dad Jokes

the cringiest Dad of all. Danny Tanner. Even remembering his name makes me nauseous.

Almost as soon as the Doctor was born, Matt started cracking Dad jokes. It must be something programmed into the human psyche. I've been counting, and each time he cracks a Dad joke I tally up the score: Dad Joke Number 167.

These are excruciatingly painful jokes. Painful because, they're just plain silly, and painful because you have to force a couple of chuckles to verify that at least you've heard the joke. And that you don't want a repeat. Otherwise your ears may start bleeding.

I can't even remember one single example because I think out of kindness - my brain has deleted them.

However, I don't ever remember my own Dad cracking Dad Jokes. I still don't think he cracks Dad Jokes.

I do however know that my FIL has a whole cache of Dad Jokes. And these are even worse than Matt's Dad Jokes. I don't think I have any bias, I just think my FIL has more of a talent for bad Dad Jokes. That he likes to share over and over and over again. And then once more to make sure you've heard it. Uh huh.

Does your Dad, partner, husband, boyfriend or friend crack corny Dad Jokes? Is there a support group?

Christmas Inspiration

I love the smell of Christmas. And I'm not talking the spices. I love the smell of Christmas beetles on a balmy Summer evening. I love the almost aching sound of cicadas chirping shrilly in the trees.

It's so close to Christmas. It's achingly close. It's giddy up close. And I have still got gifts to buy.

In particular, I find men very difficult to buy for. My husband is a case in point. I give him something, he says great thanks, and then a few months later I find him sneaking it out of the house to the charity bin. I know you're probably saying, at least it's going to a receptive home, but you know, it peeves me. I always give gifts with the line: if you don't like it, I'm very, very happy for you to return it (unless it's handmade by me) and get something you do dig.

Otherwise - *POOF* - I might as well have thrown cash into the wind.

My Dad is another hard-to-buy-for.

Inspiration anyone?

This afternoon I've been conjuring up an aromatic Christmas in the kitchen, baking my first ever batch of gingerbread. All those spices. It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas.

PS - Have posted the Kimya Dawson CDs out to the winners today!

Bird-Watching & Old Knockers: What Does It Sound Like In German?

heart shaped petals that reminded me of this lady

My Dad kindly informed me yesterday that he thought pottymouthmama was a bit boring of late. He's not so into fabrics.

In the interests of any men that might be reading, I'm going to have to step it up a bit. I have to think of something decidely un-boring. So that rules out 90% of my life (hey I'm not criticising my life, I love being home with the babies).

Given that there's still one sleep 'til
garbage night there's not much to post on my bin.

So gents, perhaps you'd like to know what makes us tick over here at pottymouthmama HQ? Or perhaps not...? But maybe you've been wondering what sound a German train makes? A German donkey perhaps?

Click through here and find out.

In other ground-breaking news, The Doctor, my baby girl (who will from now on be referred to as Tiny) and I have been going on our walks. In fact, the Doctor has also formed this walking habit too, and is a great advocate for getting our walking shoes on and checking out the neighbourhood. He's a hardcore walker. Though we have one small problem. Every walk, without fail he wants a drink and we always forget his bottle. I know an easy fix. Remember the bottle. Genius! MENSA will probably be calling me soon.

I went to scout out the bin early. It's already full. It took much self-control to not launch myself into their yard and go rummaging early. Oh yes, it certainly did. Already I have it pegged to holding old tea towels and other kitchen accoutrement this week. Well, one can only hope. And I'm hoping it's not dustballs. That's for shizzle.

And just like clockwork - the teenage boy on the small motorbike rode out. Quel bizarre! Here's photographic evidence.
The Doctor loves to snap some pics of our walk. Today 'rad dogs' skating.

Anyway our walk today - we bird-watched - the feathered variety (sorry gents) with an old pair of 'knockers' that were gleaned from the bin in the initial motherload. The red ones, so I am told by the Doctor, 'are crummy'.
And news to hand - sewing classes start next week - my sewing machine got serviced yesterday (finally! woohoo!) - so ladies, get your engines revving. But what to make? What's something super dooper simple, what's a fail-safe easy pattern for a sewing novice such as myself? I'm thinking I might head off to Tessuti and glean some ideas from them. Ideas?

Better Dad?
